Ki/Aikido/Aikijujutsu study day – Stavanger
Ki/Aikido/Aikijujutsu Study Days in Stavanger:
Mikko Montonen, Kyoju dairi (Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu)
On the 25 November we have a visitor from Finland: Mikko Montonen holds Kyoju dairi (teaching license) in Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu, granted by Yutaka Amatsu, the student of Takuma Hisa. Before his passing in 2013, Amatsu sensei taught Mikko all techniques in the 9 volumes of the Soden books (547 techniques).
Soden – sometimes referred to as the secret syllabus of Daito-ryu – was compiled in the early 1940s by Takuma Hisa. It contains photos of the techniques taught by first Morihei Ueshiba (in 1934-1936) and then the founder Sokaku Takeda (in 1936-1939) at the Asahi newspaper Osaka branch.
Aikido techniques are much based on Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu, and on this study day we will explore some similarities and differences between the two. Moreover, we will study the fundamental principles of Sokaku Takeda’s original Daito-ryu, along with the select parts of the Soden.
